This species is native to the Americas and is the only armadillo found as far north as the United States. Habitat: Found across a wide range, from the southern United States (Texas, Florida, and as far north as Nebraska) down to South America. It prefers warm, moist environments like woodlands, grasslands, and scrub areas, often near water sources such as rivers and streams. They are also adaptable and can be found in some suburban and agricultural areas. Diet: Omnivorous, with a strong preference for Ants, termites, beetles, grubs, worms, and other small invertebrates. They may also eat small amphibians, plants, fruits, and fungi. It uses its strong sense of smell to locate prey underground. The armadillo has powerful claws for digging, which it uses to unearth insects and grubs. Its primarily nocturnal or crepuscular (active at dawn and dusk), but may be seen during the day in cooler weather.
